Western Rudohorie biking trip

Western Rudohorie

The path my cousin Peter and I took on Sunday May 26. That day we made over 100 km and 2000 meters of elevation gain. The ride was spectacular. Started in Hrinova – climbing steeply (elevation gained about 500 m) for about 10 km, then descending another 20 km to Kokava nad Rimavicou. From there a fairly gentle climb back to the elevation of about 1000 m to the Tlsty Javor pass near Sihla. Followed a quick descend through Cierny Balog village to Hronec where we visited Peter’s parents-in-law and rested at their weekend house. From Hronec we followed the Kamenista Dolina all the way to Sihla, barely noticing that we made an elevation gain of 500-600 m.

The springs along the Kamenista Dolina valley are captured in nice wood sculptures like this one.

Vstavac Majovy (Western Marsh-orchid or Dactylorhiza majalis) – one of several kinds of plants belonging to the Orchid family that grow in Slovakia. We found this one near the road just above Sihla.
