Spring is coming

It looks like the winter is over and spring arrived with a vengeance. The birds are chirping and vegetation is rushing to spread its “solar collectors” – one can almost see the grass grow. Couple of weeks ago I started to dig a hole for a cellar behind my house:

The front wall will be all made of stone with a nice stone arch above the door. There will be one small window. I spoke with a neighbor who is fixing an old farm house about 300 yards from where my house is about some hand-worked stones from an old barn that I noticed in his yard. He said I could have them, which should save me quite a bit of work. The only issue is how to transport them, but I know couple of people who own a tractor so I will manage.

The cellar-hole work got interrupted by the spring arrival and the need to prepare a patch of land for my garden. Today I completed the prep. work and managed to sow kohlrabi, carrots and red beets seeds. I will continue tomorrow sowing broccoli and brussels sprouts, possibly other stuff I find in the gardening shop. In May I will plant seedlings of tomatoes, more kohlrabi (a different kind), pumpkin and zucchini. Now that I have a water tank for irrigation and will have a new cellar to store the crops in, I want to try to have a nice garden.
